One approach that can be taken to contemporary collecting is a reactive approach to contemporary events or societal changes. This could be through large scale work to identify current trends and collect them as in the V&A’s Rapid Response gallery or on a smaller scale such as the collection of individual items deemed iconic, significant and of the times.
In recent years this has been seen in the rush of organisations expressing an interest in collecting from recent protest and activist movements.
