Collecting to Fill Gaps

A common approach to contemporary collecting is to use it to fill gaps identified from a collections review or other work. It is a targeted approach that can enable a collection to better represent audiences. This could take a cross-disciplinary thematic approach or be centered on one curatorial area. It focuses on what is missing from your collection and aims to resolve this.

Museums Sheffield adopted this approach in their Protest and Activism Esmée Fairbairn Collections Fund Project.
