The care and documentation of collections is important and there are thorough guidelines and support to ensure this is carried out correctly. However, with large holdings and frequently facing a backlog of documentation it can be hard to ensure that we are using our collections effectively.
It is important to remember that this work doesn’t need to be carried out all at once. Small piecemeal projects that focus on collections that have a connection to a particular audience can combine documentation with engagement and participation are more manageable chunks of work to focus on.
