In the first section, we considered:
- What is racism
- What is anti-racism
- Why language matters
We will now think about the role of museums in anti-racism work.
We will start by considering the relationship between racism and museums. We will consider the legacy of racism created by colonialism and its impact on museums. We will think about the impact structural racism has on museums today. Building your confidence to name racism and its impact in museums can support your work going forward.
We will then move on to think about what anti-racism means in museums and what it can involve. We will consider what role museums can play in advancing racial justice. We will end by considering why this work matters now and the context for this work across the UK.
By the end of this section you will:
- Have an improved understanding of the relationship between racism and museums
- Have a greater understanding of why anti-racism matters to museums
- Have an improved awareness of why this work matters now and the wider UK context
