The third principle in the Code of Ethics is Individual and Institutional Integrity.
This principle operates at an individual level – the extent to which an individual upholds and adheres to the Code and at an institutional level – the extent to which an institution or governing body upholds and adheres to the Code. Where a governing body is defined as the principle body of individuals in which rests the ultimate responsibility for policy and decisions affecting the governance of the museum, for example a Board of Trustees. Legal title to the assets of the museum may be vested in this body.
Within the sector there are several different museum types with differing governance models – these will also affect how each institution works with the Code of Ethics.
