Putting it into Practice Introduction

This section is all about the future.

Much of our focus has been on big picture thinking – what is a community partnership and how does that relate to your museum and museums you are familiar with. We have wanted you to take a step back, look at your work from a different perspective, learn from others and challenge yourself and others.

At the beginning we explored the Museums Associations commitment to community partnerships, from the Code of Ethics to Museums Change Lives, and the pilot project, funded by Paul Hamlyn Foundation, Partnerships with Purpose.

The Participatory Practice section looked at national and local organisations, participatory frameworks and techniques for working with communities and developing community partnerships.

The Museum Context and Culture section looked at gaining your museum or the sector’s support and a sense of how partnerships will be resourced.

The Community Partners section looked at identifying and engaging potential partners, and supporting community partners and members.

In this section we look to the future, helping you think about your own checklist, your own action plan to take this thinking and reflection and Putting it into Practice.

Putting it into Practice Learning Objectives

You should already feel confident about the benefits of working in partnership, the toolkits and organisations that can help you and the opportunities for your museum.

This section builds on this and moves you to the future, by focusing on more practice considerations. By the end of this section you will:

  • Know your next steps and how to move ideas forward.
  • Be able to evaluate effectively.
  • Understand current trends – social prescribing and co-production.
