Participatory practice has become more popular in museums over recent years and it is important to consider this approach when it comes to our collections work. The communities in which we function have a voice when it comes to the care and use of our collections and democratised collections practice should be considered.
Curatorial and collections staff hold the skills and knowledge about the correct procedures for managing collections to national standard. They should use this knowledge to enable access rather than act as gatekeepers to collections.
